Les Baxter - Ritual of the Savage

Les Baxter, Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman are the Holy Trinity of Exotica.

I wanted to bring this one back to the top because I saw that it had very few downloads. As best I can figure, it was largely ignored at that time because A) I didn't post a pic of the cover, B) I neglected to post a pic of the cover and C) there was no pic of the cover.

I've noticed that most of the early posts, where I didn't include a pic of the cover, sadly did not get all that much love.

THIS is the record that really started the whole Exotica thing. Even though Les never really got all that much into the bird calls and the special effects, He is still The Father of Exotica and this, RIGHT HERE, is where it all started.

A huge chunk of the Baxter catalog has been re-issued on CD, but for some inexplicable reason "Ritual of the Savage" has not been re-issued.

Its an older rip of mine but a pretty good one.

You're absolutely right! When you first time uploaded the ritual of the savage i thougt it was just like the monophonic copy you might still find easily on other blogs and i didn't download it. But when i saw the pic of your cover "duophonic for stereo" i immediately realized your rip could be different from the other ones. And WHAT A SURPRISE IT SOUNDS GREAT WITH REALLY SUPERB STEREO EFFECTS, not the usually monophonic sound i've always listened to. This is the best copy i've still found at today and i say to you thanks thanks thanks and thanks again...
Les Baxter is my favourite composer and i'll be very grateful if you'll upload African Jazz too.. Moroccored

I'm glad you pushed this one back to the top - a nice selection indeed! I haven't made it through your archives yet but I will admit I'm one of those that skip over posts with no cover art. Thanks for the upload and drawing some extra attention to it!

I also found another cover shot which worked a bit better with my iTunes viewer - you can find it here:

Thanks for the comments.

@Moroccored: Sorry but I don't actually have the African Jazz LP. I guess I never sought it out because I have a good quality rip that I bought off of a web site. Since the guy did sell them (for a small fee) I won't post it here. Plus I don't plan on posting other people's rips, just my own.

@keath007: Yeah, the pics aren't my thing. I just lean the LP (in this case in a frame) up against the microwave and snap a digi pic. Doing a decent scan of the cover would take me longer than it takes to record and edit the whole album! I'd have to do four scans and merge them in PSP.

Thanks as always J$!

I was GONNA pass on this one because of the DuoPhonic "stereo" effect (which usually ends up to be crap and more painful to listen to than RCA's StereoAction without Dramamine), BUT, I'll give it a shot as soon as rabidshare will let me snag it.

Please repost this link. With so many of these great albums, the links to rapidshare are dead - please don't leave them like this. Thanks

I've heard that this album is really exotic, actually I love those sounds which sound like rituals and I know it could provide me that.

I lost my external drive & I must say that this was a fantastic version.
I love the Duophonic Baxter.
Sure sounds like it was recorded in stereo to me.
Any chance of re-upping it?
Or if you're on Soulseek, message Your Pal Doug
Anyway, thanks for taking the time ripping & sharing this. Damn Rapidshare anyway.
